Lakeland resident Briana Boston, 42, was charged with threatening to carry out an act of terrorism or mass shooting after a heated phone conversation with BlueCross BlueShield about a rejected medical claim. After detectives discovered variations of the statement inscribed on round casings used in Thompson’s fatal shooting in New York City last week, the phrase acquired prominence. Luigi Mangione, who was detained in relation to Thompson’s murder, is accused of writing a manifesto that attacked health care organizations.
Boston’s home was visited by Lakeland police after FBI officials informed them of her threat. The affidavit states that Boston acknowledged making the statement but apologized for it. She assured detectives that she was not a threat and that she did not possess any firearms. According to the police, she also claimed that because healthcare firms are bad, they played games and should have received karma from the world.
