New York’s Bronx.Prosecutors said Friday that a Bronx man had been sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the heinous 2020 murder of his mother.
Justice Alvin Yearwood of the Bronx Supreme Court condemned Michael Marte, 33, on January 31 after a three-week jury trial found him guilty of second-degree murder.
Investigators said that early on November 28, 2020, Marte attacked his mother, Teresita Rosario, 59, at their Clinton Avenue home, killing her. After stabbing her in the neck and strangling her with a cord, he covered her head with a garbage bag and hurried away.
At 4:30 a.m., Marte was seen on surveillance tape leaving the house and boarding an Uber to travel to John F. Kennedy International Airport. In June 2021, he took a plane to California, where he was eventually captured and brought to New York.
According to Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark, the defendant argued with his mother and then brutally murdered her before escaping to California. For his horrible deeds, he will be imprisoned for decades.
