While investigating a possible kidnapping, detectives from the Des Moines Police Department reached out to the Metro Special Tactics and Response Tactical Unit for assistance on Saturday.
Police were alerted about an altercation in the 800 block of East Washington Avenue at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, according to authorities. They were informed that Troy Lee Mure Jr., 33, of Des Moines, had entered his ex-girlfriend’s residence armed with a pistol when they arrived. According to the reports that reached the police, Mure had used the revolver to strike the woman multiple times in the head and face before violently putting her into a car and driving off.
According to authorities, the victim leaped out of the vehicle and Mure drove off once police approached the vehicle. The victim’s injuries were modest and included abrasions, edema, and lacerations.
Afterward, the unattended car belonging to Mure was discovered on the 1300 block of East 12th Street. Despite the deployment of a DMPD K-9 to look for Mure, he could not be located.
An investigation was launched by bringing in the Crimes Against Persons Section. It was found out later that Mure was at a house on the 1500 block of Washington Avenue.
The Metro STAR Tactical Unit was sent in to help law enforcement once they acquired warrants. The squads showed up to the house just before 5 o’clock, announced their presence over a loudspeaker, and pleaded with Mure to give himself up.
Authorities report that the arrest of Mure occurred outside of the residence and without incident. Investigators found the gun they think was used in the previous attack.
The individual was charged with the following:
- Kidnapping — first-degree (Class A felony)
- Burglary — first-degree (Class B felony)
- Going armed with intent (Class D felony)
- Felon in possession of a firearm (Class D felony)
