Kansas facing Layoffs as Major Automotive Company Issue WARN Notice for about 1700 Workers in Fairfax

Automobile manufacturer General Motors (GM) has stated that it will be laying off more employees at its manufacturing in Fairfax, Kansas, in the United States. In accordance with a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice that was submitted earlier this week, approximately 1,695 employees of General Motors will be let off in a phased manner beginning in November of this year.

Following the confirmation of the layoffs, a representative for General Motors stated that the first of two waves will begin on November 18. There will be a total of 686 full-time employees who will be affected by this round of layoffs at General Motors, and 250 temporary employees will be affected as well.

A spokeswoman for General Motors stated that 759 full-time employees will be placed on temporary leave as part of the second phase, which is scheduled to begin on January 12th, 2025.

In addition, General Motors disclosed in August of this year that it intended to terminate the employment of more than one thousand salaried workers across its global software and service groups.

The restructure has global consequences, with jobs being affected all over the world, despite the fact that these layoffs are largely focused on the company’s operations in the United States. Several former employees of General Motors resorted to social media platforms such as LinkedIn and X to share their experiences with being let off.
