Maryland truck driver nearly tosses $1 million Mega Millions ticket

BROOKLYN, MD — A truck driver from Anne Arundel County almost missed out on becoming Maryland’s newest Lottery millionaire after nearly throwing away his winning Mega Millions ticket.

The loyal player, who includes Mega Millions in his weekly lottery purchases, matched five numbers in the October 15 drawing, winning a $1 million second-tier prize. However, he nearly discarded the ticket while checking his numbers, thinking he had gone through them all.

Fortunately, a family member offered to double-check his tickets using the Lottery app. She quickly realized the mistake and ran after him with the incredible news.

“I thought something was wrong when I saw her in the rearview mirror,” he recalled. “But then I saw her smile, and I knew it was good news.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Check Cash Depot, located at 8 16th Avenue in Brooklyn, which will receive a $2,500 bonus for selling the lucky ticket. The winner is considering using his prize to buy a new home and car for his family.
