A tragic incident occurred on Saturday when an Osage Beach Police Officer lost their life in a devastating car accident following a high-speed pursuit, according to authorities. During the early hours of the morning, a vigilant Osage Beach officer spotted a vehicle traveling at a high speed on the westbound lanes of US-54 highway, in the vicinity of Passover Road.
According to a news release from the Osage Police Department, the driver accelerated and led officers on a pursuit that spanned multiple roads, including Route Y, Midway Road, and A Road, after a traffic stop was initiated.
After almost 20 minutes, authorities found Officer Phylicia Carson’s vehicle in Camden County. The vehicle was discovered crashed and engulfed in flames. According to the release, Carson, who had been with the department since June 2023, was the second officer to chase after the driver.

At approximately 1:42 a.m., authorities discovered the driver involved in the pursuit had crashed on A Road near Canerie Lane and was subsequently apprehended. No charges have been announced. The crash and criminal investigation is being managed by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Carson is survived by her husband and six children behind.
The Osage Police Department has confirmed that charges have been filed against Christopher Aaron Bishop Wehmeyer in connection with the tragic death of Officer Phylicia Carson.
Lieutenant Michael O’Day from the Osage Beach Police Department has stated that Wehmeyer is facing a serious charge for fleeing a stop that led to a fatality. Due to the implementation of the Valentine’s Law on August 28th, Wehmeyer may potentially be sentenced to life imprisonment.
