Two juveniles charged in AI-generated image scandal involving Lancaster school students, update on schoool employees

Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Authorities stated on Wednesday that two teenagers have been charged with creating and possessing artificial intelligence (AI)-generated pornographic photos of kids at Lancaster Country Day School, which involved 60 identified victims.

According to the Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office, the juveniles digitally altered photos from the social media profiles of 59 children and one adult using an artificial intelligence tool, making the victims seem nude. In a private chat room on the social media site Discord, the two defendants shared the manipulated photos and videos.

Among the many charges against Juvenile #1 are criminal conspiracy, 59 counts of child sexual abuse, distribution of pornographic materials, and possession of unrelated child pornography. With the exception of the irrelevant content, juvenile #2 is charged similarly. The Juvenile Act of Pennsylvania protects the identity of both suspects.

Investigators discovered 347 photos and videos in Discord logs, along with conversations in which the defendants talked about editing the photos for their own enjoyment. When one of the minors unintentionally posted a modified image in another chat room in November 2023, another student noticed and reported the action, leading to the removal of the image.

“The number of victims involved in this case is troubling, and the trauma that they have endured in learning that their privacy has been violated in this manner is unimaginable,” said District Attorney Heather Adams, who voiced her serious concern about the case.
