Food Network chef shot multiple times in Hyattsville robbery

HYATTSVILLE, Md. — Celebrity chef and Food Network personality Tobias Dorzon, renowned for his Hyattsville restaurants and television appearances, is recovering in the hospital after being shot multiple times during a violent robbery on Tuesday night, police said.

The shooting took place around the 2500 block of Kirkwood Place as Dorzon and a female companion returned from dinner. According to authorities, four gunmen armed with semiautomatic weapons ambushed the pair, opening fire and robbing them on the spot. Dorzon and the woman were both struck by multiple bullets. Police have not yet provided an update on the woman’s condition, but Dorzon remains hospitalized.

Hyattsville police are actively searching for the attackers and are asking the public for assistance in identifying a white SUV linked to the crime. Surveillance footage from the scene reportedly shows a person crawling to hide behind a car as the assailants approached, followed by rapid gunfire and chilling screams echoing in the night.

Dorzon, who owns the acclaimed Huncho House and 1123 By Chef Tobias, has become a prominent figure in the culinary world, hosting “Timeout with Tobias” on ESPN and Hulu. Earlier this year, he made headlines as the first chef from Prince George’s County to receive “Chef of the Year” honors from the Restaurant Association of Maryland. Known for his competitive spirit, Dorzon has also starred on Food Network’s “Guy’s Grocery Games” and “Tournament of Champions.”

As the community reels from the shocking attack on one of its local icons, police are urging anyone with information to come forward. The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are working around the clock to bring the assailants to justice.
